Always wanted to try Canoeing or Kayaking but didn’t know what to do next?
This course gives you the chance to learn all of the basics of Canoeing and Kayaking and covers the British Canoe Union 1* Award. The 1* is a clear stepping stone to becoming a paddler. Designed as a basic award, the one star is the level people would typically reach after an introductory course.
Candidates must be water confident and ideally should be able to swim.
Participants per course: 8
- Lift, carry and launching.
- Forward paddling.
- Steering and controlling.
- Returning to the bank.
- Rescue skills – capsize and rescue.
- Emptying boats.
- Awareness of others.
- River trip.
- Assessment for 1*
The course is run with 3 full day sessions off site at local venues. All days begin and end at the Taste for Adventure Centre.
All necessary safety equipment (canoes, wetsuits, buoyancy aids), travel to off site venues and insurance is provided. Participants need to bring themselves, lunch and suitable clothing. Prior to the course a booking form and suitable clothing list will be provided.
Cost of provision to participant:
£120 per course per person.
